Students enrolled in the Visual Arts & Media program at St. Joseph's high school are required to take the following four arts credits:
AVI 3M Grade 11 Visual Art
AWS 3M Grade 11 Graphic Design
AVI 4M Grade 12 Visual Art
AWS 4M Grade 12 Graphic Design
These core courses are all University / College level courses. Grade 11 classes require the student to have previously completed either the grade nine or ten open visual art course. Students may choose to take the grade 11 courses in their grade 10 year provided they have already completed the grade nine visual art course.
Students are also required to take a senior level business or social science course and senior level English course.
A Co-operative education component is also required to earn an SHSM diploma. Students must apply for Co-op in the guidance office. It is recommended (but not required) that students attempt to complete their co-op in their grade 11 year. Cooperative education is scheduled for half days in either the morning or afternoon for one whole semester. Students go out to work placements in their chosen field and earn 2 high school credits for successfully completing their placement. Students may also choose to complete their cooperative education unit in our summer school program. Students who prefer to earn their co-op education credits in the summer must submit a summer school application before the deadline. t
